School Library Journal, Emily lives with her Aunt Gina and her mother, who together own Om Nom bakery, a place where they secretly bake good feelings into their offerings with the help of special magic. While Emily's mother travels the country giving lectures and seminars on magical baking, Emily and Aunt Gina bake together and collaborate on new recipes with help from Emily's best friend Dae. There's only one rule: never bake bad feelings into the recipes. That rule is upended when Aunt Gina unexpectedly dies in a car accident, and baking is the only way Emily knows how to cope with her feelings. When she bakes her grief into a crumble, she and others who eat it get sick, and also can't stop eating it. Baking her grief over and over again into the crumble, Emily is caught in a bad cycle, until she learns that trying to rid herself of grief isn't the answer. Only by accepting what happened, can she and her mother move forward and find hope again.
